Excel Scientific’s unique SealMate system provides a convenient new method for sealing standard format microplates with adhesive films. The system includes a molded polypropylene dispenser with a hinged “clamshell” design and sealing films supplied in a novel sheeted-roll configuration.
The SealMate dispenser provides a protective enclosure for films on the roll prior to dispensing. It can be opened, permitting insertion of a new roll, then closed and latched securely. Individual films are delineated by non-adhesive color bands that serve as end-tabs for positioning films on the microplates. Each non-adhesive band contains two perforations: the first tears easily to separate the sheet being dispensed from the next sheet on the roll. The 2nd permits the end-tab to be removed from the plate once film is applied.
SealPlate® 38 µm thick polyester films minimize evaporation, prevent spillage and contamination between wells, and provide a secure seal, not just a cover. They are recommended for ELISA tests, general incubation, and short-term storage. Temperature range: -40 °C to +120 °C. SealPlate films are non-pierceable. Each SealPlate roll contains films to cover 100 microplates. Color code: green.

The Gas Permeable Clear Heat Seal is based on the Clear Heat Seal, with the addition of 3 mm slits across the width of the seal. These slits render the seal gas permeable, whilst retaining evaporation to a minimum, compared to the use of lids. The Gas Permeable Clear Heat Seal is compatible with polypropylene, polyethylene, polystyrene and cyclic olefin copolymer (COC) plates. The seal can be removed by peeling, or it can be pierced with a pipette tip manually, using a liquid handling robot or with a Pierce Plate. It can be used for insect and seed storage, as it enables gas exchange, whilst providing an inert surface with no adhesive to interfere with the well contents.
X-Pierce™ Pre-Cut Pierceable Sealing Films are useful for protecting contents of plates from contamination during multiple manual reagent additions over time. They are 89 µm thick vinyl with a 18 µm thick adhesive layer, designed for temporary protection from contamination and evaporation for samples in 96-well plates. A precut "X" over each well creates four flaps that easily bend downward when pushed by a robotic probe or pipet tip, allowing sample access without coring or adhesive fouling. A thin adhesive layer and special hairline cuts separating the X-Pierce flaps combine to prevent probes from contacting adhesive and becoming occluded. The flaps return to their original position after sampling for continued protection. For long-term sample protection after sampling, a continuous sealing film should be applied as a second layer.
A 140 µm thick hydrophobic porous rayon sealing film including medical-grade adhesive for tissue culture plates, bio-blocks, and 96-well plates where gas exchange is necessary for cell or bacterial growth. AeraSeal sealing films minimize cross-contamination, spillage and evaporation. They allow uniform air and CO2 exchange for all wells, unlike plate lids which favor exchange for wells near the plate edges. Dimensions: 82.6 by 142.9 mm for standard-size tissue culture plates.
